I was delightfully surprised to see the first half of a new Derek story this week. It seems Derek has got himslef mixed up with the tale of Jack and the Beanstalk. I can't wait to see what happens to him next week. Will there really be a giant Bernard ready and waiting to eat him?

Great story. Nice to see strips like this following a 'bizzare' storyline...harks back to the good old days, eh? Liked the colouring too. Definitely the highpoint of this weeks issue, I'd say.

Even I'm excited about being in the Beano again! I've been a bit slow churning out the stories of late - mucho apologies.

Found an ad at the top... Silly ad. Imagine what that would be like... ~~~~ Search: "Dear Ask. I've been living under a rock for three millenniums and have not heard of Jack and the beanstalk. What is it about?" Results: Your search did not match with any Web results. Did you mean "Joseph and his technicolor dreamcoat?"~~~~ Erm...no.

These are the ads I can see now: "Jack and the Beanstalk Jack and the Beanstalk (1955) Movie Reviews, Ratings, & Rankings Movies.TopTenReviews.com" "Umbrella Freedom £15 per week, compliant umbrella fast CHAPS service just £5 extra www.umbrellafreedom.co.uk" Apparently "Umbrella Freedom" is an "employment management organisation"...

Unite and free the umbrellas! We shall not be held aloft in the rain! I suppose they're not referring to Beanstalk Bunny, the Warner Bros. Merrie Melodies cartoon released the same year featuring Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and Elmer Fudd? ( "I'll gwind your bones to make my bwead!") Thought not.
