Who writes Fred's Bed?? I hoped that Mr Derek might be able to tell us if Mr Baxendale's returned to the Beano..afterall he must have some insider knowledge?!

From what I can gather they're reprints. Not Leo Baxendale, but Tam Paterson and some other chap (name escapes me) shared the art duties. Writing duties would normally be in-house at DCT, I think, although I could be wrong. I did hear that Tam Paterson used to write his own stories until quite recently.

According to the April 5th edition of the Beano, Fred's Bed artwork is credited to David Parkins. I always thought the other guys name was 'Tom' but I'm not going to argue with Derek.

Fred's Bed are all reprints, only two have been drawn new for the comic - one by Lew Stringer at Crimbo and one by Jim Glen (DTM Fan Club 80s-90s) early this year.
