Haha, I highly doubt DC Thomson need me, Paws. Not for a LONG time until they reach crisis will they accept a contract with me. And BeanoMAX is indeed incredibly popular. It's probably due to a wider age range and more material in the publication. Not to mention glossy magazines are stocked in more retailers in comparison to the classic story paper.

Oh, I see. I guess if The Beano and The Dandy, the comics that the nation's grandparents and parents used to read, were to survive in an increasingly consumerist society, they'd need to update themselves to the 21st century. Unfortunately, this would mean more promotional stuff, and possibly a decline in comic quality and quantity due to budget cutting. Like MAX. The good news is that the magazines are printed nice glossy paper and there's still room for good old fashioned comics. Like Derek!

Yeeeup. Pretty much, sadly. Comics have to fight off competition with less healthy entertainment, such as TV and games.

Well, the DFC are going down a traditional route, i.e. non-licence, no free-gifts, no ads; just chockablock full of stories of all varieties. Going subscription only, means they avoid the damaging large cut supermarkets take from comic publishers. Morris Heggie, ex-ed of the Dandy, said at the panel at Bristol that if the the business model of DFC turned out to be successful, then DCT would have to seriously consider it themselves.

It's quite a new idea, which if you ask me needed investigation. I'm looking forward to seeing DCT's reaction.

Paws, what made you choose the colours you did for "MAX" and "Derek"? At a glance it makes it look like MAX is a good thing and Derek a bad thing.

No, Menaceman. Red and bold is good. It means " Ta-da!" Green and italic is bad. It means " Ew! Stinky!" The idea for the latter came from these two Strong Bad Emails from Homestarruner.com. Both of which are quite enjoyable. But you don't have to watch them if you don't want to. "origins""rough copy"

I now see where you were coming from but still stand by the fact that red usually means "Warning!", "Keep Away!" and such like.
