One of my friends in school is OBSESSED with manga (such as Case Closed and Yu-Gi-Oh books). He always brings these into school with him, so one day I picked up one and had a flick through it - I didn't like the story lines (humour is more my thing) but found the style VERY interesting. It's weird how you have to read from right to left when you're used to it the other way round, but I did find it extremely pleasing to look at. Here's my attempt at a cartoony-manga, with a less manga-y storyline. Coloured and lettered by hand. Comments accepted and appreciated!! Yes, the name is random. And that Japanese writing does in fact say Japanese Potato. EDIT!! I forgot to mention, although you may have taken notice of this already, it's read in the traditional manga way: Reading direction image taken from Wikipedia's Manga page.

Well you got the layout down great. Alex's open eye in the last panel looks a bit odd. You could have done with extending the line underneath to the right more to seperate the eye highlight from his skin.
This reminded me of a manga my cousin gave me once. It was called something like "The Great Genius Bakabon". Basically about a father and son waiting for the wife to give birth to a child. They are that excited they keep shouting which scares the baby so it wont arrive! When the baby is born it is a genius able to talk already and handy at building robots. It has LOTs of humour for a manga and is thankfully written all in English. It has Japanese notes in it so I think its for Japanese who are learning English.
