I got my copy of the new Dandy annual today, at £4.99
Only one in stock!!
I have some spoilers, so anyone waiting for Christmas for it to be a surprise might want to go and read the DFS thread
It's a very refreshing difference to the Xtreeeeme nonsense of lately. It features almost all comic strips, with only one page which didn't feature a brand new drawing on it somewhere (although, to be fair, it did have a CGI picture of Desperate Dan).
There's an ongoing Ninja Number Nine story, drawn by Dave Windett, who also revives his own version of Korky the Cat for annual.
Plenty of Tom Paterson, Nigel Parkinson and Steve Bright in there. Tom also has a take on Brassneck, although IMO the colourist spoiled it with the silver body. I preffered Nick B's brass coloured version.
There's no reprints, thankfully, and Bananaman has been drawn by Barrie Appleby, presumably to tie in with his reprints from Beeb Comic late last year. No Xtreme characters make an appearance, which is a shame, as those such as Captain Hookless and Lucy Grimm are very high quality strips.
Winker Watson also returns, drawn in his Eric Roberts style by none other than Ken "Desperate Dan" Harrison.
Characters include Jak and Todd, Desperate Dan, Cuddles and Dimples and Beryl the Peril, and, although I never thought I'd say it, my highlight of the annual is an Ollie Fliptrik strip. It takes you behind the scenes of the Dandy, but not in the old fashioned way of artists, writers and the likes. Instead, it's on a movie set! Billy Blanchett forgets his lines, Ollie shows us that his thatched roof isn't really thatched, Doug auditions for the part of Cuddles and Dimples' dog, and the REAL person of Jak shows us his stamp collection!! Oh the joys.
I may also review the Beano Annual when I get it (presumably October 17, my birthday). Hopefully it's kept the same high standard as this one
A recommended buy to anyone! 128 pages, priced £7.99 RRP. Out 3rd September in most places!
